Service Dog 1 & 2
Task training for service and therapy work
Service Description
This course is custom tailored to individuals needs. If you would like Bingo to grab a water out of the fridge, or grab your medication, YES. Maybe you need support from your dog when trying to stand up, YES. These are just a few examples of the task we can cover. The tasks assigned are dependent upon the needs of the handler. This course covers task training for service dogs and therapy dogs in training, as well as public access training to ensure public obedience and cue reliability around distraction. Each course is pay per class and requires a deposit to register. Completion of basic obedience is required and will be tested. If basic obedience is not applicable, that will be the starting point of training. Canine Good Citizen is highly recommended as a precursor to this course. Service Dog training often takes upwards of one to two years to complete depending on the complexity of the tasks, as well as the dogs suitability and starting point. A medical note from a doctor is REQUIRED in order to begin service dog training with Faith in Paws. Not every dog have the temperament and capability to become a service dog. Faith Small reserves the right to decide whether or not a dog/ handler team are properly suited and trainable. Dogs can flunk out of service dog school at any point for a number of reasons. Enrolling in this class does not guarantee a perfect finished service dog. This class is singularly taught using a coaching approach, this is an "owner train" program. The less hands on the trainer is, the more the training bond is formed between the handler and the dog. The trainer provides step by step coaching in real life encounters. Service dog one covers the task training, and basic obedience. Service Dog two covers task training and obedience public access following CGC and ADA compliant guidelines. Each dog/ handler team will be met for an in person evaluation/ consultation before agreeing to begin training. *Prices are based on trainers distance traveled. For townships bordering other counties additional fees may apply for gas. Thank you for understanding. *If an assistant is needed an additional $20 fee will incur each class the helper is present.
