Reactive Dog Training

Service Description

A custom reactivity training program that varies depending on the source of reactivity. Class timeline will consist of a minimum of 6 week dedication with classes being scheduled once a week. This course is for owners with consistent availability and is not available short-term. Classes must be booked for the 6 week requirement to see change. The initial focus on obedience and leash skills sets the foundation for success before moving onto desensitization using the B.A.T. method. By gradually introducing the stimulus through distance and positive association, we work towards lasting behavior change. We expose your dog to the stimulus and then take away the stimulus from a large distance with a loose leash and calm composure, rewarding the dog for looking at the stimulus and choosing to look away. We reward the dog in training for no reaction and gradually decrease the distance letting the dog lead the way based on body language. In this course, we utilize psychology to teach your dog to feel safe and confident around the stimulus. Base price can vary depending on the risk associated with the type of reactivity assessed during the consultation. Consultation required before booking. All dogs are different, and this class may not work for everyone. If you believe punishment is the only road to success, I may not be the trainer for you, but I encourage you to give it a try! Classes are only offered in person. Although this class is offered in 6 classes, each dog is different. A dog may learn in four, or forty BAT set ups. If your dog is doing well after 6 classes (but needs 40 BAT setups) and I have confidence in you to continue practicing without the trainer present and the dog is not deemed aggressive and is just excitable, I will release you to finish your training without the trainer. This is decided by active conversation with the trainer by both votes of confidence from trainer and client.
